The Spider-Man: There’s no way home The writers reveal that Aunt May’s death almost happened in a completely different location.
Tom Holland’s three Spidey films have been successful on various fronts, including nailing the breakup between Peter Parker and Aunt May. One of the most devastating moments in the film, Aunt May’s death sees the mother endure the wounds in Peter’s arms. May’s death ultimately resulted in the webhead trying to put his rage aside and follow his aunt’s wish to cure a lot of the movie’s villains.
Aunt May’s death notably occurred on the ground floor of Happy Hogan’s apartment building after she was hit by a Green Goblin’s glider. As perfect as a moment, it turns out the key character’s death almost happened in a separate location. Talk to Golden Derby, Spider-Man: There’s no way home writer Erik Somers teased an alternate version of the death scene.
“Production was also difficult because we had different ideas about where the scene might take place, but because of COVID we had an idea that it would be inside the ambulance and we had a whole version built around that, but that’s impractical when shooting in COVID. So that’s the kind of thing that happened, so then we had to move the physical scene somewhere else while trying to keep all the other elements active and we had to adjust. That’s what happened in production and so on, but I’m so glad it turned out the way people, I’d say people started to cry. I’m not happy when people start crying, but I’m glad it affected people the way we wanted, it resonated because it was so important to Peter’s story and his journey. So I’m happy that people feel that it has worked.”
