It is 1,000 percent better than a thorny leaf we have it now and it will feature fast charging and dual 4WD motor options for the first time.

More importantly, it will be built at Nissan factory in Sunderland.

Nissan unveiled not one but FIVE concept models this week as part of a grand plan for 15 new electric and solid-state battery vehicles by 2030. It will invest £33 billion in electrification. within the next 5 years.

The Leaf was officially announced as “Chill Out” – but we all know it as the Leaf replacement.

Expect great rear lights (like the 370Z), high-waistlines (like the Ariya) and illuminated Nissan badges (on its nose) to keep the car on the road.

Also expect wing mirrors, door handles and a less sci-fi interior. But don’t expect double doors.

They are for display only.

As for other concepts, they are crystal ball visions that take us to 2030 and beyond.

We like “Surf Out,” the orange pickup, and “Max Out,” a two-seater convertible. Build them. We challenge you.

Nissan has a history with its bulletproof Navara pickup, and it needs another poster hero like the GT-R.

We care less about “Hang Out” advertised as a portable living room with a pop-up projector screen but suspiciously looking like an MPV.

All three use the same skateboard deck with a solid-state battery packed between the axles giving designers total freedom on top.

We’ve said it before but solid-state batteries are the silver bullet for electric vehicles.

Ten things you should know as a car owner

They have twice the density of lithium-ion, are cheaper and charge faster, and use less of the planet’s most precious resources.

Plus, they’re 100% recyclable.

The bosses had another surprise for us at last night’s Nissan Futures event in Japan, introducing the single-seat Ariya race car. Wild.

But on the basis that we have been waiting for Ariya to be normal forever,

I can’t see that happening before Lord Lucan wins the Grand National. On Shergar.
