Nintendo has yet to make an official statement on that matter. However, an insider said the publisher is committed to releasing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 this year, although it’s still too early to say for sure.
This statement comes from Samus Hunter on Twitter. According to her, the company is still hoping to release Breath of the Wild 2 this fall. However, Nintendo also left the door open to delaying the game to 2023 or later. According to the leaked source, management likely won’t make a firm decision until April. Breath of the Wild 2 isn’t even the actual name of the game, as Nintendo has yet to reveal the official title. A lack of information does not automatically signal developmental problems. Nintendo could have simply held its card close to its chest to create hype. Still, it’s understandable if some fans worry about the lack of detail.
What fans know little about Breath of the Wild 2 still leaves plenty of room for speculation. It is one of the few Zelda games that is a direct sequel to its predecessors. The trailers also suggest a significantly darker tone than the original Breath of the Wild. These factors led some fans to compare Breath of the Wild 2 to Majora’s Mask. At least the E3 2021 trailer gave fans a glimpse of Breath of the Wild 2’s gameplay, showing off new enemies, environments, and mechanics. The most prominent is Link’s new set of powers, including the ability to push from a distance and the ability to change shape through solid objects. Hopefully, fans will have the opportunity to pass it on before not long.
