CINCINNATI — At least nine people were injured — none critically — in a shooting outside a bar in Cincinnati early Sunday, local police said.
Most of the victims sustained wounds on their lower halves, Cincinnati Police Department Lt. Col. Mike John told news outlets. A police officer shot a suspect who was fleeing the scene, but it was unclear if that person was actually shot. The suspect was not in custody as of Sunday morning.
“It’s a little unusual when we don’t know for sure whether the person the officer shot was hit or not,” John said.
John said police used two “bangers” – a “percussion instrument” with a “very loud sound” – to disperse a crowd they said had gathered around officers trying to help the wounded .
The shooting took place just before 2 a.m. outside Mr. Pitiful’s Bar in Ohio’s Over-the-Rhine area, a popular nightlife area. Another shooting in the neighboring Central Business District left two injured shortly after, but John said it was too early to say if there was a connection.
