A NIGHTMARE neighbor has been jailed after stepping on a woman’s head during a row over a parking space.
Anthony Bert, 61, became furious with his 50-year-old victim after she temporarily parked her vehicle in a private lot while picking up some bits and pieces from her garden.
Bert threatened the woman four months before the attack but was jailed for more than five years earlier this month, police said today.
He became aggressive and repeatedly threatened the woman on March 23 after she was parked in Namrik Mews, Hove. East Sussexwhich is just off the street of the defendant’s former home in St Aubyns.
He then brutally attacked them, leaving the victim with serious injuries to his face and chest before fleeing the scene.
A warrant for Bert’s arrest was circulated and he was arrested more than 60 miles away at Heathrow Airport while attempting to board a flight Spain.
Four months earlier, in November 2020, the same victim called 999 after Bert kicked her front door and yelled threats and insults.
In that incident, Bert was only approached by officers after the woman opted not to pursue criminal prosecution, police said.
At Lewes Crown dish On March 3, Bert was jailed for just over five years and three months – 64 months – after pleading guilty to two counts of intentional causing grievous bodily harm.
Detective Janet Summers from Sussex police said today: “I would like to thank the victim for their assistance in enforcing this judgment following a vicious and sustained attack.
“Violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Brighton and Hove and we are delighted to have a violent offender behind bars.”
Police urged victims to report online or to 101, or to call 999 in an emergency.
