The Segment, part of Corden’s US talk show The Late Late Showsaw Minaj rapping and playing the clarinet alongside Corden’s beatboxing.

Minaj also spoke candidly about the impact being a woman in public has on her mental health and her anxiety, which she alleviates by crunching on ice cubes.

“I think when I was younger my more natural state was to be more confident,” Minaj said. “But I think if you’re a woman and you’re in the public eye all the time, you get less confident if you’re not careful because you’re going to be scrutinized all the time. I just don’t take it for granted. It is not natural for a person to feel that everyone is criticizing them.”

The rapper explained that when she first got into the industry, she felt like she “could get away with anything,” but as her fame grew, it became “the complete opposite.”

“If I blink wrong, they’ll make up a story about why I blink like that,” she said. “Anytime I get off social media and get that shit off my phone, I just have this tremendous sense of peace.”

Minaj gave birth to her first child with husband Kenneth Petty in September 2020. She said on Carpool Karaoke that motherhood plays a “big part” in feeling at peace.

“No matter what’s happening right now… when I look at my son, I’m just magically in love. He just makes me laugh, makes me smile, makes me happy.

“I rap and sing to him all the time,” she added.
