NEWCASTLE UNITED are reportedly interested in signing Bologna’s Scottish starlet Aaron Hickey.
Hickey, 19, is also there closely observed by AC Milan and other top European clubs.
The defender was called up by Steve Clarke for Scotland’s friendly double header. his debut in the 1-1 draw against Poland.
And now Fabrizio Romano has announced the toon’s interest in the Glasgow kid.
He tweeted: “newcastle are interested in signing Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey.
“Possible £15m-20m fee is not a problem, he is considered a top talent.
“Other clubs are watching closely.”
Hickey, who has mainly played at left-back this season, has made 27 appearances for Bologna this season.
The former Celtic and Hearts trainee has played more minutes than any other teenager in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
He has scored four goals this season, added an assist and has shown class in Italy in the last two seasons.
In September he became the first Scot to score in Serie A since Graeme Souness 35 years ago.
As well as playing as a full-back, he has also shown his versatility, playing on both flanks and as part of a four-man defense.
AC Milan sent scouts to games specifically to keep an eye on him.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have been told they will likely have to navigate through the window without new sporting director Dan Ashworth.
The Toon face a summer of hefty spending while their controversial owners continue to tighten their wallets.
However, the window is not overseen by Ashworth, who is currently on gardening holiday in Brighton.
Ashworth, 51, resigned from his post at the Amex last month and has been on gardening vacation ever since.
Ashworth looks set to start in November, which means he’ll miss out on the Toon’s summertime glory.
The Magpies are said to be “relaxed” on the situation and have a structure similar to January’s.
