Newcastle ‘agree with Aston Villa on a transfer fee for Matt Targett with an option to make the loan deal permanent in the summer’

NEWCASTLE have agreed with Aston Villa the transfer fee they will have to pay if they want to sign him permanently in the summer.

The 26-year-old left-back came to the Magpies on loan from Premier League colleague Villa in the January window.

And he has started four of their five league games since arriving at Tyneside.

As things stand, he will return Steven Gerrard’s squad at the end of the season.

But the two clubs have now agreed a £15million price tag for the player.

So it depends on whether a persistent transfer is completed or not newcastlethe desire to keep him.

Targett will almost certainly want to stay at St James’ Park as Villa newcomer Lucas Digne has taken his place in Gerrard’s team.

The former Everton man did that are moving away from Goodison Park in January for a fee of £25million.

Meanwhile, Targett has been part of a huge upsurge in form for Newcastle.

In a great turn under Eddie Howethey are now undefeated in eight premium Matches.

Since losing to Man City on December 19, the North East side have won five of their last eight league games.

That puts them seven points clear of the relegation zone in 14th place.

Next up for Newcastle is a game against Southampton on Thursday night.
