SILER CITY, NC (WNCN) – A New York man has been arrested for murdering a Cary woman in what was At first it was believed that it was an accidental shotthe Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said on Tuesday.
MPs were reacting to what was first reported as an accidental shooting just after midnight on February 13. When they arrived at the scene along Jessie Bridges Road, they found 38-year-old Cary native Patricia Stanley dead in an RV called the Sheriff’s Office.
Stanley was shot once, lawmakers said.
A man who remained at the scene, later identified as Oliver Arz, cooperated with investigators. However, they “soon found that the available evidence did not support the original narrative of an accidental shooting,” Lt. Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Sara Pack in the press release.
Further investigation pointed to a possible homicide. Since then, Arz, who lives in Brooklyn, has been charged with first-degree murder in Stanley’s death, the sheriff’s office said.
Arz and Stanley knew each other. His actions were not arbitrary, authorities said.
On February 18, Arz was taken into custody by United States Marshals and held without bail. He was taken to Chatham County Detention Center on Friday, where he has been held without bail ever since.
Arz is in court on March 21.
