New York Five Alarm Fire sweeps through buildings in Chinatown

A fire raged in a building in New York’s Chinatown early Sunday morning, with five fire alarms.

The fire was reported after midnight at the rear of Dim Sum Palace in a four-storey mixed-use building in Chatham Square.

“Manhattan residents may see or smell smoke due to emergency responders operating during a five-alarm fire at Chatham Square and Mott Street,” the city’s emergency management account tweeted just before 3 a.m

The account previously advised people nearby to avoid the smoke and keep their windows closed.

It was not immediately known if anyone was injured in the fire.

Sunday’s fire comes two weeks after a house fire killed a woman and her son on Mulberry Street.
