New York Democrats are asking Hochul to fire party leader Jay Jacobs

A number of members of the state’s Democratic Committee have signed a letter urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to ditch party leader Jay Jacobs after last Tuesday’s midterm elections – which enabled normally truly blue New York to win the House of Representatives turn around for republicans and the governor comes in so close to lose.
“Last week voters in the US successfully fought a ‘red wave’ and instead handed over several state legislatures and governorships to Democratic control and fought valiantly to retain the seats in Congress,” read the letter, which was signed by hundreds, including those sitting members of the state Senate and Assembly.
“However, here in New York, the state’s Democratic Party — led by Jay Jacobs, who was appointed by Cuomo — has failed to devote the time, energy and resources necessary to maintain our Deep Blue status,” the statement said Letter.
Four congressional seats passed to Republican control, and Governor Hochul won by a narrow majority — the smallest in two decades,” he adds.

“The writing is on the wall and has been for some time: Jay Jacobs is unfit to serve as leader of the State Democratic Party and it is time for Governor Hochul to work with the party to create a focused, determined and unifying party leader to choose,” the letter continues.
“Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado said in his victory speech that New York must continue to be a beacon of progress. But we cannot be the guiding light for our country under a party leader who spends his time creating a third party, actively works against Democratic candidates (while comparing them no less to nationally known racists), supports his local Republican Party, not raises a finger to enact constitutional changes to protect our democracy and blames everyone else for his leadership failures.
“The New York State Democratic Party is better than that. We, the undersigned, stand ready to work with Governor Hochul to elect a genuine party leader who embodies actual democratic values and – as clearly stated on our party website – “Committed to building a party that will ensure New Yorkers are progressive, fair and engaged leaders at all levels of government,'” the letter concludes.

On Saturday, Mayor Eric Adams insisted Jacobs is doing a great job – joining Hochul, which previously said she would not call for the long-contested party leader’s resignation.
“Jay Jacobs was a really steady hand and I think Rodneyse Bichotte — talk about Ws,” Hizzoner added, praising the Brooklyn Democratic Party leader for helping win Attorney General Letitia James.
Bichotte has also come under fire for failing to get her party’s voice out in Kings County.
Last week, far-left MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also called for Jacobs to resign.
“I called for the resignation of Jay Jacob a year ago and I still hold that position,” AOC said in a tweet Wednesday upon her re-election to her third term representing portions of the Bronx and Queens.
Jacobs was appointed to his leadership role by Hochul’s predecessor, Andrew Cuomo, who resigned last year following multiple scandals and a possible impeachment.
On Thursday, Hochul said: “We are not making any decisions. I think he did a great job as chairman and he remains chairman. I don’t change anything.”
