New York Convention Speaker Carl Heastie helps Indiana kid get Aaron Judge Baseball

A 12-year-old baseball fan, who came to New York from Indiana, tried to get bat Aaron Judge to sign a baseball – but he got his wish thanks to a chance encounter at a local pizza joint.

Samir Myers and his father Andy were having a slice at Nick’s Pizza on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx after a Yankees game in July when they met one of the Empire State’s most powerful elected officials, who happened to be dating the Bronx Bombers.

Samir of Carmel, Indiana, had just watched his first Yankees game on July 31 — a loss to the Kansas City Royals — when he and his father met a mystery man posing as State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-East Bronx).

“What would you do if I got you an autograph from Aaron Judge?” Heastie said. Samir had just tried unsuccessfully to get Judge’s autograph at the game.

“I didn’t expect anyone to really like something that nice, tut… I thought they would pull my chain,” Samir told the Post of the unexpected turn of events during his visit to the five boroughs to mark his primary school graduation.

The Bronx powerbroker came forward the next day by calling Samir and Andy to say the Yankees were already on the case as they continued the 11-hour drive back home to Carmel.

“It’s like, ‘Wow, yeah, he could actually do it,'” Samir said.

Heastie declined to give the name who specifically helped fulfill the request, but told The Post that help for Samir came after years of working with the Yankees on a range of local issues, including building a new one stadium which opened in 2009.

“I haven’t spoken to Aaron Judge, but I’ve spoken to some executives [and] All the teams here in New York are pretty good when you ask them to do things related to the community,” said Heastie, who first detailed his efforts on behalf of Samir a Twitter thread post Saturday.

Fulfilling the request took months, but the Bronx Pole added that the contacts he’d made throughout his career in politics finally got through, with an express mail package containing the baseball arriving at the Myers’ doorstep last Monday arrived.

“It’s all about being nice to someone,” Heastie explained of the effort, which began after he stopped by Nick’s, one of his favorite pizza places in the area, which he’s run since 2001.

Heastie was hardly the only aggressively friendly New Yorker to make an impression on the Myers during their time away from the Midwest, as the father-son duo also encountered an Airbnb host who practically asked to take them to Lower Manhattan Drive to see the sights Away from the Bronx.

A baseball signed by Aaron Judge is a hot item after a season in which the now-free agent broke an American League record by hitting 62 homers that season, with prizes ranging from hundreds to millions of dollars — depending on the one involved Story.

But Andy Myers, the budget director at Butler University, says he and his son got a baseball after that chance encounter at Nick’s Pizza with a political bigwig who wanted to spread some happiness in his district and beyond by helping a boy to get something really priceless get inked by his 6’7 hero.

“People who live in New York City always have this gruff and hasty reputation,” he said. “That wasn’t the experience we had. It was an eye opener for me.”
