New York carjacker hits cyclist and crashes into tree after shot

A carjacker in the Bronx struck a cyclist and seriously injured him before crashing into a tree Thursday night, police said.
Prior to the messy ending that led to an arrest, the suspect was involved in a separate accident while driving a Mercedes, cops said.
The suspect collided with another car on Kingsbridge Road and Heath Avenue around 3pm before being shot at by an unidentified person, authorities said.
It is unclear whether the shooter was the driver of the other car.
The Mercedes driver then fled the scene and hijacked a gray Honda Accord, which eventually crashed into a 47-year-old male cyclist, the NYPD said.
The carjacker eventually crashed into a tree and was arrested with charges pending, police said.
The cyclist was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
The shooter was not arrested, police said.
The NYPD did not immediately have the age or gender of the two people as of Thursday night.
