New ‘Wheel of Time’ casting announcement reveals how far season 2 will go

Wheel of time is only halfway through the first season, and the casting announcement for Season 2 has caused quite a stir. In Monday, Limit line reported that actors Guy Roberts, Arnas Fedaravicius and Greg Chillingirian will be joining the fantasy series. The roles they’re taking on tell us a lot about how far the series will go in upcoming episodes.

Warning: there are vandals Wheel of time front! Amazon is said to have offered Roberts the role Uno Nomeshta, Fedaravicius to play Masema Dagar and Chillingirian to play Ingtar Shinowa. All three men are noble warriors from the nation of Sheinar, one of the kingdoms on the Borderlands tasked with protecting humanity from The Blight. Book fans can remember that Moiraine’s group of tourists headed to Shienar near the end of the first book, The eye of the world. This gives us plenty of room to speculate about Where will part 1 go? and how much further will Part 2 take us.

At the current point we’ve reached after Episode 5, “Blood Calls Blood”, it makes sense for the party to reach the Shienar quickly. Now that Egwene and Perrin have escaped the Whitecloaks, the group will soon be reunited in Tar Valon, which seems to be the show version of their reunion in Camelyn in the books. The book version then takes them on a journey through “The Ways” – a dangerous dimension – guided by Loial, which takes them right to the stronghold of Shienaran Fal Dara.

Some version of this must have taken place, as we have had confirmation that Shienaran Lord Agelmar Jagad will appear in Season 1, played by Thomas Chaanhing. Sandra Yi Sencindiver will also play the role of Lady Amalisa, but they could easily meet the group on the road somehow without taking them to Fal Dara.

If the rest of the Shienarans aren’t introduced until Season 2, that means the show will introduce new obstacles to prevent the group from reaching Shienar for the next three episodes. Otherwise, it could mean the Ways will take them straight to the Eye of the World, saving the Shienar’s visit for later. This would make sense, since the team is going to spend some time with Shienar in the next book anyway.

This could be a good strategy to do justice not only to these characters but to the entire Borderlands culture. This is an important part of the world-building for this franchise, and it is essential to fully understand the character of Lan (Daniel Henney). Going through Shienar now and coming back later can be one of those things that simply doesn’t work well on screen.

Wheel of Time Season 2 is currently filming, with actor Donal Finn reprising the role of Mat from Barney Harris. Is different new cast will include Natasha O’Keeffe and Meera Syal, whose roles have yet to be revealed. Wheel of Time Season 1 is now streaming Amazon Videos, three more episodes to go. They are released on Friday.
