New Jersey prisoner claims she was sexually assaulted by trans prisoner: lawsuit

A New Jersey prison inmate claims she was sexually assaulted by a transgender convict whose “aggressive” behavior was not stopped by staff at a notorious women’s prison.
An unidentified female inmate has sued the New Jersey Department of Corrections after alleging she was sexually assaulted at the now-closed Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton.
She has accused the state Department of Health and prison guards of failing to take “corrective action” regarding the “sexually aggressive and harassing behavior of transgender people” who have “fully functioning male anatomy,” according to the lawsuit, filed March 29. Filed in Hunterdon County Superior Court Aug. read.
In addition, two other female inmates at the facility became pregnant as a result of “transgender sexual interactions.” [prisoners]”, the lawsuit, viewed by My Central Jerseysaid.
The unidentified woman claimed she was sexually assaulted by the transgender inmate in September and October 2022. She said she reported the incidents to Edna Mahan’s staff but was instead accused of disciplinary retaliation, My Central Jersey reported.

In addition, the inmate, who has been detained since 2003, said the transgender inmates are being housed with others in areas where there are no surveillance cameras, according to attorney James Wronko, who filed the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, the alleged perpetrator has since been transferred to a facility for men.
The New York Post has reached out to NJ DOC and Wronko for comment.
In a separate lawsuit, another inmate at the same facility sued the Justice Department after allegedly being forced to perform a sexual act on a male guard.

The lawsuit alleges a male officer pushed a woman into the toilet, turned off his body camera, unzipped his pants and forced her into a sexual act in August 2021, according to My Central Jersey.
The guard is said to have threatened her that she “didn’t want to leave with missing teeth” and that he could “really make up” for her time in prison.
In June 2021, Gov. Phil Murphy ordered the prison closed following numerous sexual and physical abuse scandals.
