IF YOU’ve just become the proud new owner of an iPhone, there are definitely some tips and tricks you need to know.
We’ve put together a list of 10 essential Apple iPhone tricks to help you get the most out of your new device.
1. Reply to a message
One nifty feature on newer iPhones is the ability to reply to specific messages, so you can move on and say goodbye to the confusion in a group chat.
Tap and hold the message you want to address, tap “Reply” in the options menu, then type and send your message.
2. Set video as lock screen on iPhone
Highlight your lock screen by setting a live video as your wallpaper.
You’ll need an iPhone 6S or later (iPhone SE not included) for this trick.
Apple has a selection of live wallpapers, but it’s more fun if you set your own.
If you have a photo directly in the Photos app that you want to use, just open it, click the button in the bottom left corner, and scroll to “Use as wallpaper”.
Click this and it will automatically appear as an animated wallpaper.
3. Use AirDrop to Share Multiple Photos
If you’re sharing a large number of photos between Apple products, AirDrop will be much more efficient than emailing or using iMessage.
All you have to do is stand within 30 feet of the device you want to send the photo to, then make sure both devices have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.
After you click the AirDrop option in your Control Center panel, someone else’s device will show up.
Click on their contact and you’re good to go.
You can also use the airdrop to send documents, audio, web links, etc.
4. Set up Emergency Bypass
There is a feature on all newer iPhones called ‘Emergency Bypass’ and it can come in handy if someone tries to contact you in an emergency.
It can also come in handy if you misplace your iPhone when it’s on silent mode because one of your emergency contacts might call it.
To set it up, open your Contacts app and click on the name of the person you want to be able to call you in an emergency.
Click ‘Edit’ in the top right corner, then scroll down until you see ‘Ringtone’.
After clicking on the ringtone, you will see an ‘Emergency bracelet’ option pop up at the top of the screen.
5. Hide unused apps
While iPhone apps can greatly improve our iOS experience, you probably don’t use most of them every day (or even once a month).
Thankfully, newer iPhone models come equipped with a feature that allows you to move your unused apps into Apple’s “Apps Library”.
Simply click “Remove App” from the app’s quick actions, then select “Move to App Gallery”.
6. Launch Apps Faster
If you practically use your phone for everything, then you know how long it can take to locate a particular app amidst the chaos.
A convenient feature to combat this is your phone’s default “Search” tool.
To access this feature. all you have to do is swipe left from the home screen and type the app name in the search bar.
7. Faster Charging
If your phone is in need of charging but you are pressed for time, then this hack can help.
Just turn on Airplane Mode.
When you do this, you’ll pause tasks that use your phone’s battery, such as notifications and GPS roaming, helping your phone charge a little faster.
8. Get more storage space
Storage space is a highly coveted commodity for most iPhone users.
To get the most out of your phone, hold down the “power” button, wait until you see an option to slide and power off your phone, then hold down the “home” button.
Doing this will clean up your phone’s RAM, helping to reduce the space your apps might be taking up.
9. Customize Notifications
One cool feature with iOS is the ability to customize the text notifications you receive.
You can do this by selecting a person from your contact list and tapping “Edit”.
From there, go to “Vibration,” then “Create New Vibration” to set a custom vibration for that person.
Now you can always see who texted you without even looking at the screen.
10. Erase text with just a shake
If you’ve ever typed in a very long text to send you-know-someone, but then changed your mind about it, this quick hack can make it never even exist.
Simply shake your phone vigorously to erase everything you typed within two seconds (all you have to do is click “Undo typing”).
And if you ever change your mind about changing your mind, you can always shake your phone again and select “Redo typing” to make the text reappear.
