BENSON, NC (WNCN) – A newly released 911 call describes the moments when the silver Lexus was spotted on I-40 this morning.
CBS 17 previously reported that a missing Cary five-year-old was found in Benson around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
An Amber Alert was originally issued at 8:38 p.m. Wednesday
The call was made by a driver who saw the vehicle traveling eastbound on I-40 near Benson.
“I’m coming off exit 306 near the Amazon warehouse,” says the caller. She proceeds to tell the operator the number plate of the silver Lexus.
The operator asks for confirmation of the number plate.
“Are you sure you saw the license plate? Can you read it to me again?”
The silver Lexus slows and the caller tells the operator, “You’re driving really slow.”
The operator then asks the caller if they can see how many people are in the vehicle.
“Can you see how many people are in this car?”
Officials later said Crystal Beatrice Walston and her daughter Amani Jada Bruce were both in the vehicle.
The operator asked the caller to stay behind the vehicle until a police officer could stay on site.
“I know you said you have to get off at exit 319, but if I can’t find a cop standing behind this vehicle, there’s a chance you can stay behind the vehicle until we get a cop behind.” them?”
After a chase, officers were able to “position their vehicles around the suspect vehicle and safely bring the suspect vehicle to a stop,” according to officials.
Walston has been charged with one count of kidnapping children and could face further charges. She has a court date at the Wake County Courthouse on Friday.
