‘Never panic’: Don Hutchison compares ‘incredible’ Arsenal player to Erling Haaland
Don Hutchison has praised Martin Odegaard as an “incredible” player for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The former midfielder compared the Arsenal captain to Manchester City treble winner Kevin de Bruyne for being “influential” on the pitch.
Hutchison also believes that Martin Odegaard makes Arsenal “tick” like Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne or Rodri do for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, as he said Premier League Productions (10/1/23 at 7:30 p.m.).
On Saturday, the Norwegian star helped the Gunners to a 4-0 win over struggling Bournemouth, ensuring the club’s unbeaten start to the new Premier League season.
This included Martin Odegaard converting the penalty and passing the ball to Kai Havertz, who scored when Arsenal were awarded another penalty in the second half.
It’s just another sign that the former Real Madrid star is maturing as a player and captain of one of English football’s strongest clubs.
Odegaard has been compared to Haaland and de Bruyne
“Great player,” Hutchison said. “He reminds me of Kevin de Bruyne because of how influential he is on the pitch and how good he is on the ball.
“Never really panic. Always seems to make the right decisions. He gets into good areas.
“I think he is the one, when you talk about Erling Haaland, de Bruyne or Rodri who make Man City tick, then I think of Bukayo Saka, and even more so, that man, Odegaard, he is the top man. “
“He’s not particularly vocal, but he does it through his actions. When they lose games. Then he says: “Give me the ball.” I still want it. I’ll still manage when the going gets tough – being 24 and captain of Arsenal. What a position. An incredible player.”
Odegaard on the way to world-class status
The 24-year-old has seen the big time in Real Madrid’s colors before, but he was still a teenager back then and far from ready for the big stage.
Now that he has found a home, the quick-thinking playmaker is starting to cook on the home stage.
If he can surpass this form on the Champions League stage and remain consistent, it won’t be long before he is placed in the world-class category.
