Netflix, Prime Video and Disney Plus: Harry and Meghan is the most-watched streaming series in 2023

The UK’s most-watched streaming series of the year has been unveiled.

In 2023, numerous high-profile releases were made available through subscription services, including Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV+.

However, there was one that released earlier this month that topped the charts as the most watched of 2023: Harry & Megan.

The controversial Netflix documentary featured multiple revelations from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Figures show that the first episode was watched by an average of 4.5 million people in the seven days following its release on December 8th.

That’s more than a million and a half more than the accumulated number The crown Season 5 premiere episode (2.8M) earlier this month.

In the documentary, Harry claimed his brother, the Prince of Wales, left him terrified after screaming and screaming during the Sandringham summit and that Kensington Palace “lied to protect my brother” when he issued a statement denying a story that William had bullied him to the royal family.

The documentary about Harry and Meghan also beat out this year’s other big releases on Netflix, including the highest-rated episodes of the latest series from After the live (4.1 million), stranger things (3.9 million) and Bridgeton (3.4 million).

The highest rated show of the year on Prime Video was Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerwhich attracted 3.2 million viewers in its first episode in September.

In the meantime, over on Disney Plus, episode one of the Star Wars spin-off Obi Wan Kenobihad an audience of 3.1 million people in the seven days following its release in May.

The figures, released by audience research organization Barb, provide the first snapshot of how the UK’s leading subscription series have fared in 2022.

Despite episode one of Harry & Megan At 4.5 million viewers, that’s less than half the typical ratings for two of the most-watched programs on traditional non-subscription channels, the BBC channels Be sure to come dance and ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Hereand well below the figures for the last World Cup games.
