Mysterious when $11.7 million block of gold ‘pops up’ in NYC’s Central Park – and it has its own security guard

A MYSTERIOUS block of gold worth about $11.7 million turned up in Central Park Wednesday morning with its very own security detail.

The golden cube is the creation of German artist Niclas Castello, who has named it “Castello Cube.”

The £410 piece was not for sale but was used to promote the launch of its accompanying cryptocurrency, Castello Coin.

With gold currently at $1,788 an ounce, it would be worth as much as $11.7 million if it were to be sold.

Castello’s group told ArtNet that the cube was made at a foundry in Aarau, Switzerland.

According to reports, it was cast in a special handcrafted kiln because the sheer size and mass of the gold used required extreme melting temperatures.

In order to melt all the gold, the furnace needs to reach temperatures above 2,000 degrees F.

It was then re-molded into a cube over a foot and a half in size.

Castello’s Cube has a wall thickness of about 1/4 inch.

Castello’s wife Sylvie Meis posted photos to her Instagram of the major artwork launch.

“24k MAGIC,” she captioned a photo of herself kneeling in the snow next to the cube.

It stayed in the popular tourist spot for just a few hours before being transported downtown to Wall Street Cipriani exclusively for a private dinner.

“With the star of the evening,” model and TV personality Meis wrote along with a video of herself admiring the cube in a matching gold dress.

Castello considers this block a “socle du monde” (base of the world) sculpture.

He told ArtNet that it was “a conceptual work of art in all its aspects” and that he wanted to “create something beyond our own world – that is inexhaustible.” Figure.”

“The cube can be seen as a kind of message between an emerging 21st-century cultural ecosystem based on cryptocurrencies and the ancient world where gold reigns supreme,” said Viennese gallerist. Lisa Kandlhofer added to ArtNet.

Castello Coin is being traded as $CAST and is being trained with an initial price of $0.44.

On February 21st, the coin launch will be followed with NFT Auction.

It’s unclear where Catello’s Cube will go after the day trip to Central Park.
