A rising beauty influencer is exploding online after posting a video of her lip fillers, well, exploding after what she described as a bad reaction to the sun.
“Girls use sunscreen when you have lip fillers. Vacation in Spain ruined,” writes content creator Isabella Skeel from Denmark in the caption of the TikTok video. As of Wednesday morning, the now-viral clip had garnered 32,600 likes and almost 700 comments.
Skeel – who was on holiday in Spain with some friends – ended up in hospital after the fillers in her lips reacted to the sunlight when she forgot to put on protection, the Daily Mail reported.
The burgeoning beauty influence said this is the first time she’s experienced any nasty side effects: “I had my lips done two years ago and the first time my lips have reacted like this,” Skeel wrote in the comments.
Meanwhile, experts warn that people who have lip fillers should avoid intense sun exposure — like tanning or tanning — and recommend that SPF lip balm be a regular part of sun care.
“Sunbathing, tanning beds, and intense heat (such as saunas and hot yoga) should ideally be avoided for two weeks after lip plumper treatment,” says Dr. Mark Hamilton, an international specialist in this field of cosmetic enhancement. “Excessive sun exposure after filler injections can reduce their effectiveness and irritate your skin as it reacts to treatment during the healing process.”
In parts of the footage, Skeel appears to be crying as she tries to cool her swelling pout, although she wrote in several comments that she was fine and just thought she looked silly.
“Hey guys! I’m crying because I thought I looked weird,” Skeel joked.
“And that’s why I would never use lip fillers,” wrote one user.
“Please, lip plumpers don’t love your lips the way God made them,” chimed in another.
Other viewers showed sympathy for Skeel’s plight.
“I thought this was common knowledge… I’m so sorry this happened to you. Hope you are fine now x,” sympathized one user.
“Sister, this is no laughing matter, it is a bad thing that can happen to others. It’s ok girl you’re strong I love you,” wrote another.
It is currently unknown if it was entirely a reaction to the Sun, or if Skeel was reacting to something else.
