My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way waves a flag with names of fans who have died at the Milton Keynes Show during the pandemic

My Chemical Romance paid tribute to their fans who have died during the pandemic as they performed on stage.

The rock band played the first of three comeback shows in Milton Keynes on Thursday (May 19).

The concerts had been postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic and fans on social media compiled a list of fans who had tickets to the performances but had died from Covid-19.

When frontman Gerard Way appeared on stage, he held up a flag covered with the names of those fans.

“So, this is kind of crazy because this is our third show, we’ve played two shows,” Way said. “I think actually it was the first night we were up there, you know we’re having a damn good time. And I was like, ‘Oh, it’s been two and a half years, how does it feel?’ and such things.”

He continued, “Later on, after the second show, it occurred to me that there would be a lot of people that would probably be on those shows that aren’t here with us anymore.”

Explaining that a friend had told him about the lists of names, he held up the flag and shouted, “Thank you,” before playing her song “Skylines and Turnstiles,” which begins with the line, “You’re not alone in this. ”

My Chemical Romance will be back at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes this weekend on Saturday (21st May) and Sunday (22nd May).

Last week, the group released their first song in eight years, titled “The Foundations of Decay.”
