At this point we don’t know all the secrets Spider-Man: There’s no way home available in the store, but we know a good number of them, including splicing the multiverses together to bring back characters from both Sam RaimiSpidey series (Willem DafoeGreen Goblins, Alfred MolinaDoctor Octopus, Church of Thomas Hadenby Sandman) and Amazing Spider-Man two pieces (Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Rhys Ifanof Lizards). And while there’s no official word on how former Peters Parker Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will emerge, essentially, the informal consensus is keep it up. The thing is, that’s a lot of logistics for Marvel and Sony, and a lot of secrets for There’s no way home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon. When Collider’s Steve Weintraub sat down with the trio to discuss the new MCU movie, we learned that they weren’t just aware of Marvel’s multiverse plans for “at least a couple of years,” but what it looks like That giant plan will not work. During those shaky times, the director Jon Watts had a pretty good backup plan for his Tuesday Spiderman movie: Kraven the Hunter.
“When I first heard about [the multiverse], I said, ‘okay, but that’s definitely not going to happen,’ Zendaya told Collider. Holland continued that by noting that Watts has a complete idea for the story of Kraven the Hunter, if the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home need it. Here’s what he said:
“For a long time, there’s going to be a Kraven movie that will be the third movie because things don’t go well and things are different. Jon recommended me this Kraven movie, it’s really good. I didn’t. wanted to talk about it in case that movie didn’t end well, but it was fun.”
First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #15 from writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, classic Spidey villain Kraven – real name Sergei Kravinoff – is a master stalker and big game hunter who becomes particularly obsessed with catching his prey. The good news is: The character is set to appear in live-action, just (for now!) in the proper MCU. Sony announced back in May that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will step into Kraven the Hunter’s leopard skin in a director’s independent film Border three helmsman JC Chandor. That movie, written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk, has a release date of January 13, 2023 and will join the studio’s MCU adjoining Marvel movies group consisting of Venom and Morbius.
But Watts, it should be noted, has been a bit championed to include Kraven in one of his films for a while. Back in 2019, before we knew any details about There’s no way home, the filmmaker has something to say Uproxx: “I really like Kraven. It’s just a tip how do you make Kraven in the movie?”
Spider-Man: There’s no way home hits theaters on December 17. Check out exactly what Holland, Zendaya and Batalon had to say in the player above, and look for our full interview with the cast soon.
