Mother and 2 children rescued after crash involving DWI suspect in Southwest Houston

The accident happened around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday on the Southwest Freeway near Gessner.
Houston police believe the driver responsible may have been intoxicated and in fact fled a previous wreck.
Investigators believe that the driver pulled away from the scene of the accident and then ran a red light at the intersection, which caused the accident involving the mother and her children.
The mother and her two children were in a Chevy Tahoe when they were struck by the driver, who was in a Toyota truck, police said.
The Tahoe eventually landed on its side, trapping the mother and her children.
Bystanders and Harris County Precinct 5 officers jumped in to help extricate the children from the car.
The mother was trapped in the car and had to be rescued by the Houston Fire Department.
Everyone, including the driver of the Toyota truck, was taken to the hospital.
