More than 200 roosters were recovered from the bust of a cockfighting ring in Cleveland, Texas, says Harris County Constable Ted Heap

The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office arrested seven people after months of investigations on allegations of involvement in organized criminal activity.
The raid recovered over 200 roosters along with $20,000 in cash and several vehicles.
The deputies transported the roosters to the Houston Humane Society for medical evaluation. It is said that some of the roosters were worth $10,000 each.
Further arrests are expected while the investigation continues.
Cockfighting and the manufacture, sale or possession of cockfighting materials is illegal in all 50 states.
In Texas it is also a crime to attend cockfights.
The Federal Animal Welfare Act prohibits the interstate transportation of animals to be used for combat purposes.
Constable Heap encourages those who suspect animal fighting or other forms of animal cruelty or abuse to report it to the Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce.
