MOORE HAVEN, Fla. – A 17-year-old student at Moore Haven Middle School was arrested for bringing a gun to school Tuesday.
The Glades County Sheriff’s Office was coordinating with the DEA task force to conduct a drug search at the K9 school when one of the dogs was alerted to carrying a backpack.
According to delegates, drugs and a fully loaded Glock magazine were found in the backpack. The teenager in possession of the backpack was subsequently searched and believed to be in possession of a .45 caliber Glock pistol.
The student was arrested and taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. The teen is facing charges of possession of a firearm on school premises and a major burglary of a firearm.
According to Glades County Superintendent, Dr. Alice Beth Barfield, the school was not subject to further lockdown because the student was placed in immediate detention.
“The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us and therefore we will give the highest priority to any and all firearms and ghost related matters. drugs”.
