Falling Moon Director Roland Emmerich called for Star Wars and superhero movies for ruining the film industry.
Roland Emmerich continues to be a master of his craft. The director has successfully monopolized the disaster movie genre with films like 2012 and The day after tomorrow. Emmerich has also created certified classics such as Detox day, Prussian soldierand Stargate. Now, the director is about to return to the disaster genre with Falling Moonwhere the moon is seen on its way to crash into Earth.
Rolan Emmerich largely stayed away from IP during this career, adapting only the first American film about Godzilla, which debuted in 1998 to average reception. There’s only one sequel under his belt, Independence Day: Rise, the director is largely the proponent of the original ideas. And despite being one of Hollywood’s most famous sci-fi directors, Emmerich doesn’t care much for it Star Wars and superhero movies.
In a recent interview with Den of GeekThe director was asked to discuss the current cinematic landscape where there are many IPs with things like Star Wars and dozens of superhero movies. The Falling Moon The director frankly responded by expressing displeasure with the direction of the film industry, largely due to Disney. Star Wars Marvel and DC’s ongoing series of films and projects.
“Oh yes. Because of course, Marvel and DC Comics, and Star Wars, have pretty much taken over. It’s ruining our industry a bit, because nobody’s doing anything original anymore. ”
The director went on to commend Christopher Nolan, who he believes will create bold new movies about whatever he wants. Nolan famously dipped his toe into superhero movies when the director was critically acclaimed the dark Knight triple for DC.
“You should make bold new movies, you know? And I think, actually, Christopher Nolan is the master of that. He’s someone who can make movies about anything he wants. It’s a little harder for me, but I still have a big enough name — especially when it’s a disaster [movie] or have some sort of disaster theme. “
Falling Moon stars Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Pena and Kelly Yu. The film was directed and co-written by Roland Emmerich. Moonfall hits theaters on February 4, 2022.
