Tributes were paid to a ‘wonderful’ father who died after being attacked in a quiet rural village.

Matthew Oubridge was found unconscious and unresponsive at around 8:40pm on Saturday, December 4, in Trellech, Monmouthshire.

Paramedics were called but 56 year old council worker from Chepstow presumed dead at the scene.

Mr Oubridge’s death sent shockwaves through the quiet rural community and police launched door-to-door investigations to find out what happened.

Those living in Trellech have speculated on what happened and believe the father was ‘flagged’ by a stranger while driving through the village.

Neighbors also said they had been told Mr Oubridge had been ‘killed by a single punch’.

In a statement released on Friday, Mr Oubridge’s family said: ‘Matthew was a wonderful father, uncle, brother and son who was tragically taken away too soon.

‘He is loved by his family and friends, he has the kindest heart and will always be with his loved ones.
