Mitski shared a note with her fans asking them to consider not recording the entire song or series at her live shows.
The Japanese-American singer is currently on tour in support of her latest album, Laurel Hell. On the evening of February 24, after her concert in Houston, Texas and before one in Dallas this evening, she shared her thoughts on filming live concerts with her fans.
“Hello!” she began in a series of tweets. “I want to talk to you guys about the phone at concerts. They’re a part of our reality, I always carry them with me and I’m not against taking pictures at shows (No flash please lol).
“But sometimes when I see people filming an entire song or a whole series, I feel like we’re not here together. This goes for both when I’m on stage and when I’m a spectator at shows. ”
Mitski, full name Mitski Miyawaki, explains that she loves the shows because of her “sense of connecting, sharing a dream, and remembering that we have a magical brief moment of being alive at the same time, before when we parted.”
“When I’m on stage and looking at you but you’re staring at the screen, it makes me feel as if those of us on stage are being taken out and used as content instead of shared the moment with you,” she confessed.
“Ultimately it’s your night, and I want you to enjoy it as much as you want. I don’t want to be greedy, I’m lucky to play! Just posed that sometimes, with luck, we can experience magic at a gig. But only if we’re there to catch it. ”
Mitski is expected to tour Europe, including Germany, France and Sweden, once her North American leg is over.
Laurel Hell received mostly positive reviews from critics. In a four-star review for The Independent, Critic Helen Brown praised the “freedom” nature of the recording.

She writes: “The tension between the desire to dance and the desire to walk prevailed.
“The pulsating beats on beats like ‘Love Me More’ are balanced by sulky rants like ‘I Guess’ and ‘Everybody” which Mitski hears (relatively) as if she were locking herself in. in the bathroom while the party outside is going on. . She owns her contrasts. ”
