Misfits kicked off week six of the 2022 LEC Spring Split with a win over Excel today, taking the team to third place alongside Fnatic.
While the match looked solid in both kills and dragons for both sides of the Rift, it was the goal advantage that gave Misfits the gold lead they maintained throughout the match.
This game marks the first time that Tryndamere has been picked up in Europe, including in the current European LCS and LEC days. Nisqy, former Fnatic mid laner, chose to play this champion at last year’s Worlds, but never in the regular season. Finn tested this pick as a response to HiRit’s Graves in an attempt to ruin his early game by spinning on him while using Ghost. HiRit is blessed with a one-time Finn reply, allowing him to buy a Hullbreaker within 10 minutes and fulfill his heart’s desire.
The Excel woes in this game continued with Mikyx picking Hail of Blades over Tahm Kench, focusing on a much more aggressive and quick play for the support player. This pivot gives Mikyx a lot of self-determination in the early game, easily joining the opposition to W and following with ADC-esque attack speed in his auto attacks. . Unfortunately for Excel, this first focused Tahm Kench build makes him little more than a giant meat shield to take down.
Vetheo became the most feared player on the Misfits side as the lives and gold continued to be transferred into his hands. With Force of Nature and Frozen Heart doing a great job making their way into the late game, His undefeated Ryze causes great damage to every member of Excel, and he gets very little from the biggest threats from the opposition. He ended the game having accumulated 17,500 gold, taking the game’s player rewards.
The sheer damage between HiRit and Vetheo was too great for Excel to feasibly break through Misfits’ defense, resulting in Misfits bringing in their massive gold during the late game and winning the game. First game of the weekend. Misfits will continue climbing the LEC ladder tomorrow against MAD Lions.
