Minecraft hits a trillion views on YouTube

You might not be surprised to know that Minecraft is quite common. What might come as a shock, however, is that it has now accumulated over a thousands of billions views on YouTube. Under a new Article published by YouTube, the video platform has confirmed that videos related to Mojang’s blocky sensation have been viewed more than a trillion times. Thanks to the massive popularity of the game, it took only 12 years for the videos above Minecraft to achieve this particularly mind-numbing viewing record.

To celebrate this important milestone, YouTube created a special music video, containing breakdowns of YouTube Minecraft’s most successful creators and memorable moments.

Honestly – a trillion is a pretty hard number for us to analyze. So to make that mind-melting metric more tangible, if each of those views were only a second long, that would add up to over 30,000 years of viewing time. If you ask us, being forced to watch Minecraft videos for 30,000 years is the very definition of hell.

However, with more than 200 million copies of the game sold, this is not a phenomenon that shows signs of slowing down. In fact, YouTube claims that Minecraft will most likely hit the 2 trillion mark in less time:

“As our data shows, it took this community about eight years to generate 500 billion views, but only two or more to double and hit one trillion,” YouTube said. “We can only guess what future heights they will hit, but with this major milestone it will be fun to see it happen.”

While the base game has to dominate the game charts, Microsoft is still investing in its expansion: Minecraft: Dungeons with additional content.
