Mike Pompeo slams teachers union leader Randi Weingarten as ‘dangerous’

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called Randi Weingarten, chairman of the American Federation of Teachers, the “most dangerous person” in the world – and claimed the union has the potential to tear the United States apart.

Pompeo, 58, gave the teachers’ union leader the dangerous nickname in an interview with Semafor published Monday – elevating her above some of the world’s most notorious leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.

“I tell the story a lot — people ask me, ‘Who is the most dangerous person in the world? Is it Chairman Kim, is it Xi Jinping?’” Pompeo said.

“The most dangerous person in the world is Randi Weingarten. It’s not close.

“If you’re asking, ‘Who is most likely to bring down this republic?’ It would be the teachers unions and the crap they teach our kids and the fact that they can’t do math or read or write.”

Weingarten hit back at the characterization, telling MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday that Pompeo only “hurt children” with his attacks.

“He’s making it harder for teachers across America to teach kids. To bring parents and teachers together,” she emphasized.

“That’s the pathetic thing about what he’s doing. He knows better, but he’s doing this to try and win a Republican elementary school, and he’s hurting the children and the teachers’ efforts to bring the country back together.”

The former top US diplomat has yet to reveal if he plans to become a Republican contender for the White House – a move that would force him to run against his ex-boss, former President Donald Trump, 76.

Pompeo, who was also CIA director during the Trump administration, made the remarks about Weingarten after being asked which GOP candidates should run in 2024.

“America’s central ideas are timeless — limited government, expanded liberties, protecting people’s ability to exercise their faith … making sure we don’t teach crap to our kids in the schools, which is what we’re the focus of,” he said.

Pompeo added, “These are the things candidates should talk to in a way that says, ‘Here’s the problem. Here is a suggested solution. And when I get the opportunity I will work on these things to try and deliver the result that fixes this problem.’ Pretty straightforward stuff.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Pompeo doubled down – arguing that the New York Times’ critical race theory and 1619 Project being taught in schools would contribute to America’s decline.

“If our children don’t understand that America is an extraordinary nation, we’re done,” he said.

“If you think it’s an oppressor class and an oppressed class, if you think the 1619 project, and we were founded on a racist idea — if those are the things that people introduced to seventh grade, ingrained in theirs Understanding America, It’s Difficult Understand that Xi Jinping’s claim that America is in decline will not prove true.”
