Mikayla Paulus Calls Her Boyfriend Adam Simjee, Who Was Shot in Alabama, a ‘Hero’

The girlfriend of a Florida college student who was shot in Alabama by a woman who pretended to need help calls him a “hero”.

Adam Simjee and his girlfriend Mikayla Paulus, both students at the University of Central Florida, were driving down a street when they were “pulled over” by a woman, later identified as Yasmine Hider, who “asked the couple if she could give some help to get their car started,” reports FOX 35 Orlando.

When the couple tried to help Hitler, she pulled out a gun and made the couple go back into the woods on an attempted robbery, according to a release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

At some point after Hitler led them into the woods at gunpoint, Simjee produced a pistol that was concealed on his body. A shootout ensued, with the suspect shot multiple times. Simjee was also shot and died at the scene. Paulus was not injured in the gunfire and was able to call for help and tell investigators about a second suspect who was watching the incident nearby.

Paul performed CPR on her friend until first responders arrived. She told FOX 35 off-screen that shortly after they stopped to help her, Hitler asked for her bank account numbers.

She called her boyfriend a “hero” for stopping the woman from hurting her at the cost of his own life.

Hitler was found with multiple shots to her torso. She was taken to a nearby landing zone and flown to a Birmingham hospital, where she underwent surgery for her injuries.

Authorities have obtained the following arrest warrants against Hitler: one count of murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery. Hitler is currently in a Birmingham hospital while she recovers from her surgeries under the watchful eye of sheriff’s deputies.

The second suspect was identified as Krystal Diane Pinkins. She was charged with one count of murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery. She was arrested on these charges and remains under custody at the Clay County Detention Center.

The suspects were found to be living “off the grid” in the woods of the Talladega National Forest, authorities say. Their base camp was about half a mile from where the shooting took place.

“That’s where deputies reportedly found Pinkins and a child holding a ‘loaded shotgun.’ The child reportedly put down the gun and Pinkins was arrested. The child was reportedly placed in government custody,” reported FOX 35.
