A bizarre conspiracy theory about Michelle Obama being “a man” is once again making the rounds after being first floated by comedian Joan Rivers a few years ago.

An unfounded rumor that Michell Obama was male-born circulated after Tucker Carlson uploaded a video to Twitter in which he interviewed someone who claimed to know Barack Obama in the past and made a series of serious claims about the former president set up.

While the outlandish claim has yet to reach the majority of people online, a small but vocal corner of Twitter is once again spreading the rumor that Michelle Obama is a transgender woman who was born with a man’s genes.

This theory is part of a broader conspiracy that claims Michelle’s husband Barrack is gay, though none of the former White House residents have ever claimed to be anything other than straight and cisgender.

Why Barack’s sexuality should be more than a footnote in his biography isn’t clear, although certain online figures appear to believe that if he were gay or Michelle was transgender, that would somehow delegitimize his previous tenure as president.

While it may have been a conspiracy theory, which you’ve come across multiple times online, it’s still a largely internet-based theory, and neither Barack nor Michelle have ever publicly addressed the claims.

The Obama rumor came from Joan Rivers

The jokes about Michelle being a man are believed to have originated, or at least been popularized by, the late comedian Joan Rivers.

In a short clip that has gone viral several times over the past few years, Rivers could be heard claiming Barack was gay while referring to Michelle using an slur used to describe transgender people.

The interaction that resulted in this clip was a brief press interaction with Rivers on the street in 2014, when she asked her if a gay person or woman could be president, and considering that she above all Known for her incredible comedy career, one can assume that her taunt to the Obamas was more an example of her black humor than a genuine claim.

Still, several people on the internet seem to genuinely believe these claims about the Obamas.

There is nothing wrong with Obama’s conspiracy theory

Needless to say, the claims that Michelle is a man or that Barack is gay are obviously untrue.

As you probably know, the couple have two children together, Malia and Sasha, both of whom gave birth to Michelle – a feat that would have been near impossible had she been born with a male reproductive system.

Regrettably, however, some people have pointed out that the Obamas underwent IVF treatment to conceive their daughters, as if that would help support the claim that Michelle is transgender.

This is a simple case of misinformation possibly being spread with a rather sinister ulterior motive as IVF is a perfectly legitimate assisted reproductive technology used by thousands of couples around the world each year and it does absolutely nothing to to legitimize false claims about Michelle’s sex or gender.
