Michael Chiklis would “rather eat glass” than be a politician

Michael Chiklis has no interest in becoming a politician.

“I’d rather eat glass,” he told the Post recently at the Fox Upfront in New York.

The 58-year-old actor stars in upcoming crime anthology series Accused, in which he plays a “very wealthy brain surgeon,[with a]family, everything that life can offer,” but then comes to terms with his son must, whom Chiklis describes as a “budding psychopath” on the verge of becoming a school marksman.

The show is an adaptation of an award-winning BBC production.

The Shield star noted that the issue was “quite relevant” given the recent shooting in Buffalo that killed 10 people, allegedly by an accused 18-year-old gunman.

Chiklis despaired that “there are always mass shootings – we are stuck in a wheel”.

“It’s this bizarre cycle that we’re stuck in that we need to break,” he continued. “I don’t know how that happened. I grew up in the United States; I grew up in a hunting tradition. I grew up owning guns. I don’t know of a gun owner who doesn’t believe we need to do something – and this is a perfect example.

“This boy was tagged, he was in trouble, there’s no way in this world that this boy should be able to buy an AR-15 and pistols without a million bells and whistles kicking off,” he continued. “We’re stuck.”

The Fantastic Four star blames both sides of the political spectrum.

“This polarization in this country has to stop,” he demanded. “The adults in the room have to take over. We’ve allowed both the far right and far left fringes to control the narrative for too long, and that’s created this death spiral that can no longer be accepted — period.”

Chiklis said the show isn’t “preachy or missionary” and hopes it will spark dialogue because “we can’t just go into our separate corners.”
