Metallica held a tribute concert in 1983 to commemorate the couple who first signed them

Metallica will be performing a special tribute concert to honor the couple who first signed them this fall.

Jonny and Marsha Zazula first signed Metallica to their label Megaforce Records in 1983.

The band released their debut in 1983 Kill them all and 1984, Ride the Lightning under the pair’s label before signing with a major. Now this concert will honor the couple who have both sadly passed away in the last two years.

During their time on the label, Metallica embarked on their first major tour supporting British band Raven.

“Tonight will be very special as we will celebrate the life, legacy and achievements of Jonny and Marsha Zazula,” the band said in a statement.

“Jonny gave us our first break in New York, released our first albums on his label Megaforce Records and sent us on tour for our first real tour.

“With Marsha by his side, Jonny has been a mentor, a manager, a label boss and a father figure to all of us… we wouldn’t be where we are today without them,” they added.

“Unfortunately, we recently lost both Jonny and Marsha, just a little over a year apart.”

The band will only play songs from those two albums during the performance to honor the late couple, and Raven will open for them.

“We’re going to put together a special setlist for you guys full of songs from our time with Jonny and Marsha at Megaforce,” they said.

“Our key touring partner from that time, Raven, will be joining us to add to the celebrations and bring back the memories.”

The gig, which will take place on November 6th this year, will be held at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood. The capacity is 7,000.

A portion of profits from the gig will be donated to the MusiCares charity, which supports musicians struggling with health, mental health or living expenses.

Metallica’s charity, All Within My Hands, is also donating to the table: Feeding South Florida.

Tickets go on sale Friday, October 30 at 10:00am ET. For more information and pre-sale details, visit the band’s website. Metallica held a tribute concert in 1983 to commemorate the couple who first signed them
