Meghan Markle recalls meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton

Meghan Markle wore a not-so-traditional outfit when she first met her future brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Markle, 41, revealed on new Netflix series Harry and Meghan that she was wearing ripped jeans and was “barefoot” when she first met Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Duchess of Sussex admitted she was unaware that the royal “formality” also takes place behind closed doors.

“I started to understand that formality prevails from the outside in, that there’s a forward-thinking way of being, and then you close the door and you’re like, ‘Okay, we can relax now,'” Markle said . “But that formality carries over to both sides, and that surprised me.”

“Even when Will and Kate came over and I met them for the first time, I remember I was wearing ripped jeans, I was barefoot,” Markle admitted.

She also shared that she had “always been a hugger” and was unaware that hugs were “really irritating to a lot of Brits”.

There have been many reports that the two royal couples are at odds with each other.

In October, an excerpt from Valentine Low’s book ‘Courtiers: Intrigue, Ambition, and the Power Players Behind the House of Windsor’ revealed that Harry Williams rejected an attempt at reconciliation following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 2019 interview with ITV Round Trip through South Africa.

Harry and Meghan also sat separately from William and Kate during Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral – and the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children Charlotte, 7, and George, 9, separated the adults at the service.

The Prince Harry and Markle documentary was released on Thursday with many shocking revelations besides not understanding the royal formalities – including the fact that Harry learned some things about his wife-to-be from the press and that their engagement interview was a “orchestrated reality show”.
