The Final Four of this year’s NCAA tournament is upon us. In the opening game of the day, the No. 9-seeded Florida Atlantic Owls take on the No. 5-seeded San Diego Aztecs.
San Diego is the first Mountain West Conference team to make it this far during March Madness. It is her first Final Four appearance in school history.
They caused a big upset in the Sweet Sixteen round, knocking off top seed Alabama. Then, in the Elite Eight, they narrowly edged out Creighton 57-56.
Head coach Brian Dutcher coaching career
The Aztecs are led by Brian Dutcher. Dutcher is in his sixth season as Aztecs head coach after 27 years of assisting Steve Fisher at Michigan and San Diego states.
Dutcher is credited with recruiting the Fab Five to Michigan during his Wolverines days and bringing NBA star Kawhi Leonard to San Diego state — arguably the most famous former Aztec.
The son of Jim Dutcher, a former Eastern Michigan and Minnesota head coach, Dutcher has found great success in his five years at the helm of San Diego. He is the only coach in San Diego State’s 101-year history of men’s basketball to have won at least 20 games in each of his first five seasons. Additionally, its win ratio of .748 (119-40) at the start of the 2022-23 season is the best in program history.
What we know about Brian Dutcher’s wife and family
Brian Dutcher’s wife is Janet Dutcher, who was born Janet Sue Braamse on October 31, 1959. Janet and Brian met at the University of Minnesota and were married on August 4, 1984.
Janet is a talented artist and designer and reportedly decorates their family home.
The couple stays out of the spotlight for the most part, but Janet is on Facebook, where she has shared several photos with husband Brian:
The couple have two daughters
Brian and Janet Dutcher have two daughters, Erin and Liza Dutcher. Erin is the oldest, was born in 1988 and attended San Diego State University from 2006 to 2011. She served as the Operations Specialist for the San Diego Seals lacrosse team from October 2017 to March 2020.
Erin Dutcher was also a customer service coordinator at Fox and a recruiter at Insight Global.
Liza Dutcher was born in October 1990 and married her husband Adam Meltz on October 2, 2022. They lived together in San Diego.
