McClain County Police Department Warns of Scams & Scams in Mall Parking lots

PURCELL, Okla. (KFOR) – Purcell Police Department officials are warning community members about a shilling and money transfer scam they say is happening at business parking lots.
“The old bait & switch scam is back in the parking lots of the local Purcell shopping mall,” police officials said on social media.
A community member paid $400 cash for a “new” television and audio equipment, officials said, but actually purchased a sealed box containing a chipboard TV stand.
Purcell police said: “The scammers tell a good story and convince unwary citizens to follow this. “Remember, if that sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.”
The City of Purcell ordinance makes it illegal to sell goods and services outside of an established business.
Officials are asking community members to report such violations by calling the Police Department’s non-emergency number, (405) 527-4600.
