Masterchef fans all have the same complaint as the show unveils a brand new format

MASTERCHEF fans protested tonight as the show tore up its long-standing format.

Gregg Wallace and John Torode explained that there would now be an “audit” round – where the couple would no longer march around screaming while the contestants cook.

Instead, as in the Australian version of the show, they will be presented with dishes in a new tasting room.

And in a different twist, Gordon Ramsay is brought in to tutor the finalists this year.

Not everyone was impressed, however, as one viewer tweeted, “Why f*** with a format that works?”

Another said: “This new #masterchef format isn’t working for me. It feels really lacking in momentum. And why are other competitors sitting there like spare parts and commenting from the sidelines?”

However, one insisted: “So pleased that @MasterChefUK is finally following in @masterchefau’s footsteps with a round of auditions. Australia has had that right for years!”

Gregg unveiled the changes at the start of today’s inaugural show, saying: “Welcome to the Masterchef kitchen – your chance to showcase your cooking skills and who knows, maybe even fulfill a dream.”

John added: “This year we’re changing things up a bit. This is an audition round – you brought all your own ingredients and we asked you to cook your signature dish for us.

“However, you will be serving us in the brand new tasting room, which means we won’t be in here watching you cook.

“The only thing we will see is the plate of food you put in front of us.”

Gregg continued, “There are three Masterchef aprons. When we’ve tried all the dishes, John and I choose three favorites.

“These three top chefs are about to grab an apron. The remaining six will give you a chance to cook again for four remaining aprons.”

Speaking about Gordon’s appearance on The One Show tonight, Gregg explained: “We often roll out the big guns.

“It doesn’t get much bigger than the Gordon, does it? I mean he’s probably the most famous chef in the world right now I think.”
