Massive multi-day storm heads for Northern California

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – A major storm is heading for Northern California this weekend, promising heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada and rain across the region. Forecasters say the storm is on track to make landfall in coastal areas north of San Francisco on Saturday night and bring light rain. The heaviest rainfall is expected to come from Sunday night through Monday morning as the storm spreads east and south. Pacific Gas & Electric is sending teams to clean plants away from power lines to reduce the risk of power outages. Meanwhile, forecasters warned people in the Sierra Nevada to prepare for snowy days that “will likely be remembered for years to come”.
