At least two people were arrested in connection with the shooting, but several gunmen may have opened fire at the fairgrounds. according to Tyree Jones, the Hinds County Sheriff.
An officer was also involved in the shooting. said the sheriff.
The deceased male victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not yet been identified. The other victims were taken to local hospitals with injuries, officials said.
“Other victims appear to be stable at this time and do not appear to be directly involved in the shooting or the circumstances leading up to the shooting,” Jones called.
Both detainees were juveniles, according to WJTV.
Police were still treating the incident as an active shooter situation after midnight through Sunday, although Jones said the scene was “contained and secured.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations responded to help, Jones said.
The festival was the second installation of the Mudbug Festival, a crawfish cookout with live music and other attractions. The 5-day event started on Wednesday and was scheduled to end on Sunday.
It is unclear if the festival will continue as planned on Sunday, according to WLBT 3.

On Friday night of the festival, American Idol music headliner winner Laine Hardy canceled her performance due to an “unforeseen personal responsibility.”
Hardy was arrested Friday for allegedly spying on his ex-girlfriend at Louisiana State University. He was released from prison late Friday night.
