Maryland rapper 23 Rackz was shot and killed while filming a music video

An aspiring teenage rapper was shot dead in Washington DC Thursday morning while filming a music video.

Justin Johnson, 16, who goes by the name 23 Rackz, was found shot to death just before 11:30 a.m. in the southeastern part of the precinct, according to WTTG-TV.

The Temple Hills, Maryland-based “Hook” artist released an album titled “Rookie of the Year” in 2021 and was considered part of the DMV rap genre, a regional percussion-heavy style common in DC, Maryland and Virginia did pioneering work.

Just before Johnson was gunned down, he posted an Instagram story sharing his location, according to a YouTube account that specializes in drill-rap content.

Police had reportedly offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the teen’s killer.
