Marvel Snap: platforms, how to join the closed beta, everything we know

Marvel Snap, a fast-paced card game featuring all of the most iconic heroes and villains from years, is officially with us and as closed beta approaches, here’s a rundown of everything there is to know.

Years after Hearthstone launched and helped it grow into one of the biggest TCGs today, Ben Brode and a host of former Blizzard developers have finally unveiled their next big project in Marvel Snap.

As an extremely fast “card battler,” Marvel Snap aims to get down to the fun as quickly as possible, with short bursts of action in games that barely last a few minutes.

With dozens of maps and unique features in the mix, the strategy certainly isn’t easy despite this blistering pace.

If you want to learn more about the rules, or even sign up to play Marvel Snap, we’ve got a full breakdown of everything for you below.

Marvel Snap does not yet have a specific release date. While the full launch is aimed for second half of 2022no exact date has been set.

However, the first Marvel Snap was closed beta announced alongside the reveal of the game on May 19th. Although only select players will be able to gain access in the near future, this could be your first chance to play the game. More information on registering for the beta below.

Marvel Snap is being described as a “mobile-first” title, although a PC launch is expected later.

Android players will get access before everyone else as the first closed beta isn’t targeting iOS devices. Until a full mobile rollout is completed for Android and iOS, however, developers expect that “an early access version” will also be available for PC gamers.

How to Play Marvel Snap Closed Beta

In addition to the Marvel Snap reveal trailer, the signups announced by the developers for the first-ever closed beta are already live. Android players can now register for access to be among the first testers.

To sign up, just visit the Marvel Snap site and fill out the registration survey. It’s worth noting that this first closed beta is only open to select regions, including players in the United States, Canada, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

Marvel Snap gameplay details

With an emphasis on speed, Marvel Snap aims to be one of the fastest card games out there. With decks of just 12 cards each, average games only last a few minutes, allowing for quick competition without wasting time.

In these 1v1 matches, players compete for majority control over three different zones. Discard your cards and accumulate more power than your opponent in two of the three zones, this is the key to victory.

Each card in Marvel Snap has its own power level and unique ability.

“Well over 150 cards” are expected at launch, the developers have confirmed, with each and every Marvel symbol dropping onto the board with a unique function. Some provide buffs to other characters, while certain cards can even turn sides and reduce the strength of your opponent’s deck.

Marvel Snap will feature a seasonal model post-launch, with new cards expected to be implemented each month as the seasons progress.

Crucially, Marvel Snap is a free-to-play title similar to many TCGs available today. However, developers have already tried to clarify that players “can earn any card in the game over time without paying anything”.

Cosmic Cubes in Marvel Snap

A casual-friendly mode appears to be available, although much of the game’s focus seems to be a competitive playlist where “Cosmic Cubes” are vital. By default, players wager a Cosmic Cube in each game.

Retreating (surrendering) in the first five rounds mitigates a great deal of risk and allows you to get out of a doomed match by losing just one Cosmic Cube.

Over 150 cards are expected for the launch of Marvel Snap, and more will be added with each seasonal update.

However, if you stay involved until the sixth and final round, the stakes appear to be doubled as both sides reveal their final moves.

If you’re feeling confident, it seems like you can snap at any time during a game to increase your bet and increase potential Cosmic Cube wins. The more Cosmic Cubes to your name, the higher your rank on the competition ladder.

So that’s all we know about Marvel Snap for now. With the closed beta starting soon, we’re sure to be hearing a lot more in the near future, so check back in the coming weeks for more information. Marvel Snap: platforms, how to join the closed beta, everything we know
