Mark Lanegan’s death: Screaming Trees and Queens of the stone Age star dies, aged 57

Singer Screaming Trees Mark Lanegan passed away at the age of 57.

He died at his home in Killarney, Ireland, with an announcement on Lanegan’s official Twitter account that read: “Our dear friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning.”

Musician who has also performed on several songs by Queens of The Stone Age and The Gutter Twins. was hailed as “a beloved singer, songwriter, and author”.

“No other information is available at this time,” the statement continued. “The family asks everyone to respect their privacy at this time.”

Lanegan, who is often recorded under the name “Dark Mark,” writes on topics including crime and addiction.

He founded Screaming Trees in his hometown of Ellensburg, Washington in the 1980s, with Lanegan saying in his 2020 memoir, Sing back and cry: “I would never find any of it in this smoky and isolated cow town. If the band can get me out, can bring me into the life I so desperately want, then it’s worth any humiliation, any hardship, any torture. ”

After signing with Epic, the band released Anesthesiologistincluding the single “Almost Lost You”.

Lanegan also had a solo career, releasing an album in 1990 titled Winding roadincluding Nirvana stars Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic.

Screaming Trees split in 2000 following Lanegan’s changeover with band member Gary Lee Conner. He then featured as a singer on Queens of the Stone Age’s debut album Rated at r performed with Josh Homme on tour with Screaming Trees.

He has performed on four other Queens of the Stone Age albums, as well as solo endeavors, including Field songs (2001), Gum (2004) and Songs about sadness (In 2020).

Gratitude for the musician has poured into the music world after the news of his death.

“Mark Lanegan rest assured. A true singer,” Sleaford Mods wrote, with Peter Hook adding: “Mark Lanegan is a lovely man. He has lived a wild life some of us can only dream of. He left us with great words and music! Thank god that through all of that he will live forever. RIP mark. Sleep well.”

Elijah Wood wrote: Aww man, Mark Lanegan.

Lanegan released another memoir in 2021. The book, titled Devil in a Comawas inspired by the musician’s near-death experience after suffering from Covid-19.

He is survived by his wife Shelley Brien.
