It happened at 4:20 p.m. in Costco, near Bunker Hill, when Victor Santos noticed two babies in the car parked next to him with the engine running. As he pondered what to do, a man in a green jersey approached the car.
In a tone caught on camera, Santos asked the man, “You left your children there?” According to Santos, the man didn’t appreciate the remark, and as he got out, the man slammed into Santos’ car and pulled out a gun.
“When I looked in my rear-view mirror, he was there with his gun cocked and all I saw was the flash came on and I heard the popping and my window shattered, I accelerated and drove off,” said Santos.

His rear dash cam captured the tense moments as the rear windshield glass shattered and Santos lifted off onto I-10 West in the parking lot.
When Santos called 911, he was put on hold. “Currently all callers are busy,” came the recorded message. A minute later a dispatcher called and Santos remembered what had just happened to him.
“A shot. He shot my jeep and smashed the whole rear window,” Santos is heard saying in the emergency call. The dispatcher then asked him if he needed medical attention, and Santos replies by saying, “I don’t need medical attention. I just need a police force out here.”
Houston police arrived at the scene, took pictures and got fingerprints on Santos’ car, where the man banged his hand on the door.
With the dash camera video confirmation, police said they were investigating this case as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
“I couldn’t believe that was all it took to blow this guy up, I didn’t do anything wrong,” Santos said.
He hopes the video will help identify the suspect and that the two babies in the car are safe.
