Margot Robbie credits the film that first made her realize she was a “good actress.”
Margot Robbie named the film that made her realize she was a “good actress”.
The Australian actress, 32, has become a household name in Hollywood but she hasn’t always been confident in her acting abilities.
Robbie appeared at a BAFTA event in London earlier this week where she reflected on her nearly 30 years as a film actress and her work as a producer over the past decade.
That Babylon Star is perhaps best known for her role in Martin Scorsese The Wolf of Wall Street, or as Harley Quinn in the DC Universe. She also starred in the 2019 drama bomb.
Speaking to an audience, Robbie said it was as she watched I Tonya that she realized she was a “good actress”.
Robbie said it was “the first time I’ve seen a movie and said, ‘Okay, I’m a good actor.'”
In the 2017 film, which was also Robbie’s first major producer, she portrayed real-life figure skater Tonya Harding. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Bafta nod for her performance.
Robbie’s co-star Allison Janey won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar and Bafta for her role as Harding’s strict mother, LaVona Fay Golden.
As reported by The Hollywood ReporterRobbie said that at the time she felt “good enough” to “reach out to my idols,” including Quentin Tarantino.
The actor went on to explain that her contact with Tarantino led to her role as Sharon Tate in his 2019 film Once upon a time… in Hollywood.
She said working with Tarantino was a “bucket list thing” for me.
Robbie received little screen time compared to her co-stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. However, the actor said the smaller role “didn’t bother her” and that she “thought we got what we wanted to get across with the film.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Robbie revealed what Scorsese believes a movie needs to be “great.”
