Margot Robbie claims Disney killed woman-led ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie

Actress Margot Robbie said Monday that Disney’s all-new female-led film Pirates of the Caribbean was forced to walk the plank, Vanity Fair reported.

According to the Birds of Prey actress, the idea was floated to reboot the franchise, which originally starred Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.

“We had an idea a long time ago and developed it for a while to have been more woman-led – not entirely woman-led – just a different kind of story that we thought would have been really cool.” ‘ said the 32-year-old actress.

“But I don’t think they want to do it.”

The idea for the reboot came about in 2020 when producer Jerry Bruckheimer – who helped produce the original franchise – was also involved with the project alongside Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, according to Vanity Fair.

There were even rumors that Depp was getting his own Jack Sparrow spinoff, but was later ordered to leave during his libel trial against Amber Heard.
