Maniac who hit 12-year-old boy with crutch is arrested: NYPD

The maniac, who indiscriminately assaulted and hit a 12-year-old boy with a single crutch on his way to school, was arrested this week, authorities said.

Jamal McIlwain, 28, took aim at the unsuspecting boy near the corner of St Paul’s Place and St Paul’s Court in Prospect Park South around 7:30am on November 17 – hit him twice with his crutch and tried a third time to beat. according to NYPD and video they released.

McIlwain was picked up Wednesday when a 911 caller reported a “messy man” outside an unspecified high school, cops said.

McIlwain spat at a responding officer, police said.

Upon arrest, police officers recognized him as the suspect in the crutch attack, authorities said.

He was charged with assault, which injured and threatened a child, police said.

Authorities say McIlwain picked up the crutch from the ground, possibly from a garbage heap, and hung around the middle of the block before pouncing on the unsuspecting child.

He mumbled something unintelligible during the unprovoked attack on November 17, police officers said.

The fiend quietly walked away after the attack, dropping the crutch on the sidewalk as he headed north toward St Paul’s Place.

At the time of the attack, he was on his way to the Church Avenue B and Q train station.

“It’s weird how he ran across the street just to hit me,” the young man, who has not been identified, told WPIX on Wednesday. “When he hit me it took me a few seconds to process what was going on. I tried to block it with this arm and ran.”

The boy suffered minor head injuries and was taken to a local emergency room in stable condition.

“I feel better than I did a few days ago when I got hit. The eye used to be very swollen. I didn’t do anything to him, so how come he has a grudge against me?”
