Manhattan man stalking Anderson Cooper arrested in New York

A hulking Manhattan man accused of stalking CNN star Anderson Cooper — who once tried to kick in a door to grab the high-profile host — was released under custody on Friday after a arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Gerald Hurt, 52, has been charged with misdemeanor, stalking, threats and trespassing for allegedly attempting multiple times to get into the West Village home Cooper shares with Benjamin Maisani.

His obsession continued despite a protective order against him, authorities said. Charges included criminal contempt for violating that order.

According to the complaint, Hurt has allegedly attempted to break into Cooper’s home at least four times since August.

On August 21, Hurt showed up at Cooper’s digs at 10 a.m., where a woman opened the door for the erratic visitor and claimed, “I have a package for Anderson Cooper.” Court documents claim.

When she repeatedly asked Hurt to leave, he began screaming and moving toward the door with “hands up and both balls of his feet,” court records say.

Cooper had obtained a restraining order against Hurt.

Then at 3 p.m. on September 21, Hurt returned to find Cooper asking him to leave several times. But Hurt reportedly pressed his full weight against the front door and reached his hands around the door to try to grab Cooper, court records claim.

At 9:49 a.m. on November 16, the mad man showed up at Cooper’s door and Maisani repeatedly told him to leave, according to the complaint.

“I’m here to see Anderson Cooper,” Hurt explained, adding, “Good luck, you’re going to need it.”

Hurt then gave Masiani his number so Cooper could contact him.

Finally, on Tuesday at 10:18 p.m., Hurt returned and Maisani again announced, “I’m here to see Anderson Cooper.”

This time, Maisani replied, “We have a restraining order against you.” But Hurt shot back, “Oh, you mean the fake order?” according to the complaint.

Hurt was arrested on December 15. The charges against him are not admissible on bail, Manhattan prosecutors said. His next court date is January 31.

A representative for Anderson Cooper declined to comment.
